LA Off To A Stellar Start During The 2011-12 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

To the surprise of the hockey world, this team has moved on to round two of the NHL playoffs and has already won their first match of the series. Barely making it as the eight seed of the Western Conference, they were considered the long shot to win the Stanley Cup. Not only that, but in first round they were expected to be no match for the number one seed Canucks. With the victory in the first round, fans have started buying their Kings tickets in the hope that they could win their first Stanley Cup Finals.

I believe that the main reason they have made it this far in the playoffs is their phenomenal goal keeper Jonathan Quick. Fans can only dream of what their team would be capable of, if their scoring improved when combined with the shut out potential that Quick has every time he is in front of the net. Make sure you get your chance to see this red hot goalie by buying your King tickets today!

This is what happened in the first round of the playoffs; the offense stepped up and made themselves noticed. The first two games, on the Canucks home ice, they scored four goals in each game. They went on to stun the critics, winning the series in five games.

Many blamed the goal tending of Vancouver, making it easy to overlook that the Kings have obviously improved offensively. The Canucks performed extremely poor on power plays, but fans would point out the performance of Jonathan Quick. To be fair, the Canucks did not play at their peak level, but this would only account for a close series. The fact is they won easily as if they were the number one seed and the Canucks number 8.

Entering the series with the St. Louis Blues in the second round, the pundits seem to have changed their minds about the Kings. They are being given a 50-50 chance of beating the Blues, and based upon their victory over the Vancouver, this makes sense.

Cinderella teams, once they reveal themselves in the playoffs, are difficult to handicap. Will they continue to play as well for the rest of the playoffs?  The odds of them winning the championship are now at 5-1. This is slightly better than the St. Louis and places them as the third choice behind the Rangers and the Flyers. The bettors are starting to believe.

They were able to beat the Blues 3-1 in the first game. This has effectively removed the home ice advantage the Blues had. The game showed the Kings with aggressive offense including a short handed goal from Matt Greene. This part of the game saw Blue’s defensive player Alex Pietrangelo injured and caused him to miss the third period. It was a concussion, and if he cannot play for a game or two, LA will benefit. They will need all the support they can get, so buy your King tickets today!

The Kings on the other hand. are healthy and playing at their peak. The team knows they have a lot of work to do, and coach Darryl Sutter has the team focused on one game at a time.

The playoffs are a new beginning and the regular season is irrelevant. The team with the momentum is the most dangerous and right now that team is the Kings.
